About the event

Join us for a busy morning installing bird, bat, bug and hedgehog boxes and learn about migration and hibernation.

Which animals leave our country for warmer climates and which animals build nests and sleep all winter?

Adults will enjoy assisting with the installation of nest boxes whilst the children can  make dens, clay hedgehogs and learn more about our visiting and departing nature friends.  Matt Prior (local bird expert), Jemma Batten (project manager) and Jilly Carter (host) will be leading the nest box installations and give short talks about our project.  Janinka Diverio will be taking care of children's activities (making clay hedgehogs, building dens and making bird feeders).  A warm drink will be provided but please bring snacks. This family session is aimed at slighly older children of 7+ (though younger siblings may attend and under 4s do not need a ticket).  The event is free but please make sure you apply for a ticket for adults and children over 4.  If nearer the time you can no longer attend the event please do let us know as we can then release your tickets for another family to enjoy. Sorry no dogs on this occasion.

The Space for Nature Events and Outreach Programme is partly funded by Farming in Protected Landscapes, a Defra grant scheme administered by the North Wessex Downs Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.
