WHAT ON EARTH IS A BEE ROAD??
WELCOME TO
THE BEE ROADZZ!
A Bee Road is an area where local communities are working together to link neighbouring towns and villages by creating joined-up, pollinator-friendly forage and habitat to support bees and to help re-establish their populations.
The farmers and friends of the Marlborough Downs Space for Nature have teamed up with Transition Marlborough to bring you Bee Roadzz - a campaign which aims to get EVERYONE thinking like a bee! We need to create corridors and stepping stones of bee-friendly habitat across the whole landscape. And what's good for bees is good for other pollinators - hoverflies, beetles, butterflies, and so on - other insects, and PEOPLE too!
There are well over 250 species of bee in the UK and as well as being awesome in their own right, bees are important pollinators of crops, fruit, vegetables and flowers.
Did you know:
-
One third of our food production relies upon bee pollination
-
90% of our wild plants depend upon bees
-
Bees need flowers from February to November
WHY DO WE NEED TO TAKE ACTION?
Bees and other pollinators are in trouble! While there are a whole host of reasons for this, some of which we as individuals can do very little about, there are things that we can all do. And while we may be getting short of bees, one thing we have in abundance is information about them, and about what we can do to help them.
So the purpose of this page is not to reveal anything new, but simply to try and provide you with the best information so that rather than spending your precious time searching through one website after another, you can use it to get out and do something positive to support your local bees!
